I had a few calls this week about applying fertilizer in ponds and the questions surrounding it were with regard to toxicity. If you are planting rice or planning to do so, applying fertilizer will not harm crawfish in burrows. If you do plan to apply a chemical to your field there will be warning labels addressing potential poisons that could be in the product you are applying. However, fertilizer (Nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium) applied at recommended rates to crops does not harm crawfish in the burrows or in fields.
