Does this cold weather mean: Flooding now?

October 11, 2010

This week it seems many have decided to flood up. Also, I have had many calls about people considering flooding up now to gain on an early harvest. This is a good idea as long as water quality is monitored. There has not been a lot of rain and this week is not showing much rain in the forecast, so pumping will be a must expense. Usually I have seen many producers waiting for that rain to signal a start, but it seems this year it is this cooler weather spell.

However, although it is cooler now does not guarantee that we won’t see 90 degrees before we have a continual cold spell.  Just be cautious not to let water sit and the oxygen levels get so bad that the crawfish die. If they die now the season will suffer severely.
